Right Forearm Tracing (RFT) is,in my opinion,the best way to trace the plane line, as you are able to focus on the hands rather than the club.

The alternative target line can be open or closed to the plane line -but you always trace the plane line.Be aware that you can have an open stance (to plane) or an open stance and plane(to target) but still hit it to target-but you always trace the selected plane-a straight line to the inside aft quadrant of the ball- or a curved path to the inside aft quadrant of the ball.

That was a bad on my part -should have said -a straight line through the ball in both directions to infinity regardless of whether you use the arc or angle of approach proceedure.
