Here's a video I shot of Bobby Clampett's beautiful action. These two guys were heading out just in front of me at Carnoustie last weekend. Warming up for the Senior British Open which is going on right now.
Is that some nice Longitudinal acceleration there or what? Snap Release? Hula Hula? What else do you see?
Nice!! I like how Fred Funk just walks up behind him
1st Tee at Carnoustie?
Alex
Yup first tee. Fred was a little hasty there , he was taking a second ball after sending his first one off the property.
This was Sunday the last day of the Open at St Andrews. I was walking out to the practice green when I spotted out of the corner of my eye a guy with a really nice set of flying wedges working on some 10 footers, then I noticed how he was holeing them all , then I noticed his curls and his resemblance to Bobby Clampett. I turned to tell my brother who was warming up in the driving net and noticed Fred Funk was lined up to get into the net. When was the last time Fred Funk warmed up in a driving net I wonder?
Check out the Impact Hands location on this warm up swing here below. He didnt do that when actually hitting of course. I wonder how high his stinger would be with that action?
Ohhh some nice foward lean on that shaft there
Wonder how Fred put it out of the property on the first? I mean even I managed to hit the fairway ha ha ha ha!

I really wanted to talk G.O.L.F. with Bobby but he ran off to the tee before I got a chance. I went back to the putting green and immediately adopted his ARm Set in my putting stance. It worked nicely for a while, I was able to adopt Extensor Action with the flat left wrist position it encourages. Im normally more geometrically flat left wrist when putting , no EA.
Fred hitting it o.b. was a shock. He said "and thats a reload", to which Bobby replied "its just a practice shot". Just a couple of buddies playing a friendly.
I found the action of his left foot of particular interest. In relation to the camera it is 45° open at address, lifts off the ground and closes to 0° at the top of the back-swing, then opens to 90° on the down-swing.

Sadlowski does the 45 to 0 to almost 90 thing too as I recall. Its the move to 0 degrees that is interesting.......not sure what it signifies.
One guess is "internal left hip rotation". I had a lesson once where an instructor in an effort to get more hip turn out of me, had me lift my left foot off the ground and turn it clockwise two or three times before going ahead and actually swinging. It that same set of muscles which when the foot is grounded cranks the left hip around apparently. Forgot about that one , Im going out to the back yard, swing think tank to try it again right now.
One of the things I notice is how much his head drops from the top to start down, you can also see the increased knee flex. Its probably a good inch to 2 inches.
I think there is not enough written about the "squat" move, which seems to me is best accomplished by proper foot and knee work.
