Why of some rules.

Why is there a rule that you may not ground your club in a hazard?

"Grounds for Seperation"

The purpose of the rule is not in allowing the club to be grounded per se, but to ensure that the condition of the hazard isn't changed in any manner. This rule can be traced back as early as 1773.

What about waste bunkers? Can you clear those things away as loose impediments?

It doesnt seem golf like to me but I hate some of the waste bunkers. We've got some up here that are filled with pebbles that'll take the bottom off your club .....man those things drive nuts. Sand ok but rocks? My poor new Mizuno's, oh man!
