How much shift does the hip turn have?

For standard hip turn, how much do the hips move across as well as turn?

I have a feeling a make a turn but not a shift, how could this be best practiced?

Eagerly awaiting my copy of alignment golf, wont be long now!!!

I like to leave the angle of the right leg in place and feel like Im turning "into" the rt leg vs. sliding "onto" the rt leg.

the latter is basically a sway. As long as you are not letting the weight move to outside of your rt foot you should be ok.
