You can sort of see why Sam felt annoyed that Runyan thrashed him! You would not feel too intimidated as he warmed up on the first tee...unless you had seen him practising his stymie relief shots on the practice green beforehand!!:laughing9

I have never played match play with the stymie rule. It looks like a lot of fun. More like snooker. Perhaps the way golf was mainly played for hundreds of years. Maybe we have done a golf a disservice by getting rid of it and match play for that matter.

Ah television and its necessity to have the winners finishing last. Match play is blood and guts. The real deal to my mind. Two Scots sitting in a pub getting into an argument and settling it on the links. Ebb and flow like a tennis match. Their score secondary. We are slaves to par now and it is rarely attainable and thereby largely a game of failures.

Bring back the stymie , I care not about divots on the green.
