Don't Steer
 

Steering is one of the bigest problems, or Snares, that a golfer can have. One should not try to hold the clubface square to the target line. This is one of the items dealing with Steering.

From the good show motion images seen on TV now... it is clear to see that good players to not have the club square to the target line until separation. Look at the U-tube of Boo Weekly or Tiger to see this as an example.

Here is a question and comment dealing with this. Do you think grip type and/or Hinge Action can produce various FEELS for this? For example, maybe a player using a Strong Grip Type, like Strong Underhand, may have a different FEEL or this than one using a more neutral kind of grip.

Hell yeah . . . it BETTER have a different feel AND BE a different MOTION. . . or you'll be lookin' for whitey where the elephants go to die.

Why people doing it?
 

The real question is why people are doing it? Not just "steering", but all of the "Snares".

Why people do it particularly on the golf course facing a challenging situation, rather than on the range or for a practicing swing?

That's pretty funny, and true, Mr. 12 Piece!! I think there must be a confusion, or fine line between Tracing the Line, and Steering the Clubhead or Clubface on that Line. Do not try to hold the clubface square to the target line, or try to hold the clubhead on the target line.

Mr. Edz got it . . . it is the HAND's relation to the Plane and the Plane Line . . . ala the Hand Path . . .

Why do people Steer?

1. In an attempt to make the ball go straight, or probably even more likely...NOT GO TO THE RIGHT.

2. Because of a poor grip. A very weak grip may cause this.

3. Pivot problems... various Zone 1 problems may cause the club to get off plane, then the player has to try to steer the clubface back to the ball to save the shot.

4. Poor concept.

All these things are most likely done unknowingly by the player, except possibly #4.

Because they've never known any different?

Because they have not learned to give up control in order to gain control.
