Tiger - Way Outta Bounds
I'm disappointed. This will go down in the history books. It isn't good for the sport or anyone who idolizes Tiger. :(
It's no longer a private matter thanks to the tabloid media. Bummer. From his website - "I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart. I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves. I am not without faults and I am far short of perfect. I am dealing with my behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family. Those feelings should be shared by us alone. Although I am a well-known person and have made my career as a professional athlete, I have been dismayed to realize the full extent of what tabloid scrutiny really means. For the last week, my family and I have been hounded to expose intimate details of our personal lives. The stories in particular that physical violence played any role in the car accident were utterly false and malicious. Elin has always done more to support our family and shown more grace than anyone could possibly expect. But no matter how intense curiosity about public figures can be, there is an important and deep principle at stake which is the right to some simple, human measure of privacy. I realize there are some who don't share my view on that. But for me, the virtue of privacy is one that must be protected in matters that are intimate and within one's own family. Personal sins should not require press releases and problems within a family shouldn't have to mean public confessions. Whatever regrets I have about letting my family down have been shared with and felt by us alone. I have given this a lot of reflection and thought and I believe that there is a point at which I must stick to that principle even though it's difficult. I will strive to be a better person and the husband and father that my family deserves. For all of those who have supported me over the years, I offer my profound apology." |
Really strange, he is coming clean in paragraph one and then is complaining about his celebrity status in the rest.
|
All of us have two parts to our lives---our image and our true character. His image is destroyed and now we find out he has no character. I had been pulling for him to break all the records, but no more. Really amazing that he is having an affair 3 months before his wife is to give birth to their first child. However, with the current state of morality in our country, I am sure he will walk out to a standing ovation at his next tournament. Somehow we will assign him victim status in all of this and just refer to the women as sluts. I feel sad that he couldn't control himself---this will always hang over his head, no matter what he does in golf, and will be a stain on his family name. I'll bet his father is rolling over in his grave at 10,000 RPM.

Bad choices
It never ceases to amaze me how celebrity whether sport or other seems to breed an air or personality that thinks they are above reproach or untouchable. The higher you get, the further you can fall.
I'm especially sad for the family and for all the young golfers that have admired him. |
I do think it underscores how well he has been managed, about the only thing you ever hear about Tiger is that he is a guys guy, someone you would enjoy having a beer with. Obviously he was doing more than that from his statement but nothing has ever been rumored in public. I also find it ironic how much rumor has been thrown around about Mickelson yet its Tiger that has found his way into the headlines.

You’ve got to be kidding me.
A Girlfriend for the past 31 months?
"Transgression" is a one night Stand. Having a Girlfriend for three years while married and having children means not having a "Moral Compass" or not wanting one. You lose your right to privacy when it's nothing more than a disingenuous veil to protect a phony "idyllic life and Personal Image" to help promote products for the single purpose of making millions of dollars. |

I know a pro ball player, he said he has a girlfriend in every major national league city...dont know much about his wife. |
No Longer a Fan
This thread will likely bring up a debate about infidelity so I'll take a pre-emptive strike on the subject.
Some will argue that what happens between consenting adults is a private matter and shouldn't be anyone's concern. Others may argue that Tiger's talents, status, and money overshadows his indiscretions and it just proves he's human after all. Forgive him and move on. Along these lines someone will undoubtably say, who are we to morally judge the private lives of others? Remove the plank from your own eye before you remove the speck from your brothers eye. My issue is that Tiger is a huge public figure with millions of fans. He has done more for golf in the last 10 years than any other single person. Until now his "image" has been squeaky clean so his charm, personality, humor, wins and mental toughness in competition have vaulted him to hero status. The problem is he is married, has children and broke his marriage promises. Message sent to millions of fans and young aspiring athletes - Its OK to indulge in extra-marital affairs, just don't get caught. But at the end of the day - Infidelity tears families apart, and that's why I care. |
It is fun to see greatness and talent beyond what anyone has yet to see. For some it is even more fun to see that greatness fall . . . that says something about society as well. I don't feel bad for Tiger but I do feel bad for his children.
The bottom line is he was/is really good at a GAME . . . period. Our society's values were more instrumental in making him rich than his talent. I understand that economics are about allocation of scarce resources . . . but economics is also about what the market values . . . and the market's values were in line with Eldrick Tiger Woods Inc. Some have said that people are interested in this story because Tiger had a "THE PERFECT LIFE" . . . RICH . . . HOT WIFE . . . TALENT . . . BEST EVER AT A GAME . . . FAMOUS . . . GOOD LOOKING. And they don't understand how his life could be lacking that he would "step out" on his old lady. There's probably some of that . . . but to me this is just plain not caring. He wants this to be private but he wants to be on my TV 24/7 pimping Nike, cars, razors etc. . . . sorry . . . the media does what they do and he KNOWS what they do . . . but Tiger did this to his family NOT the media. Team Tiger has used the media to their advantage and now the shoe is on the other foot. He will suceed at keeping this a private matter about as well as he he did in keeping his affairs private . . . not so good. His dad said he would have "more impact than Ghandi." Tall order to fill . . . even taller now. |
A human being with all the flaws that come with it. This is between his wife and he. He has never claimed to be for family values or carried his religion on his sleeve like a politician. If we knew everything about a lot of our heroes, golf or otherwise, they may not be heroes anymore. Those who have known caddies or been around the tour in any capacity can attest to similar transgressions by other players in the past, ever since the tour started, I have heard similar rumors about others for years. What is amazing is that he could play so well with a wife and girlfriend. My wife lets me out to play golf once a week if I am lucky. Anyways, I am a lot more dissapointed that he changed his swing after 2000 to the current action.

But I work in his factory... and I curse the life I'm living, and I curse my poverty... and I wish that I could be, oh, I wish that I could be.... Richard Corey....
|
I have been, and will continue to be, a huge Tiger Fan. Not because of who he is off the course, but because of his work ethic and dedication to excellence on the course.
For those of you who feel like Tiger "owed" you an explanation or don't agree with his "moral compass" please remember what Charles Barkley said, "athletes should not be role models, parents should be." I would love to see what history would be like if the internet were around when some of our "heroes" were in their prime. Babe Ruth, John F. Kennedy, and countless other public figures have "failed" in the eyes of the public. We are a forgiving society and I think it is time to be fair. Does Tiger make Millions of dollars? Of course he does, does he make that money because of his "squeaky clean image"? Probably not. He makes bank because he is the best player on the planet. PERIOD! Kobe Bryant was charged with rape and we (society) forgave him. What many of you fail to recognize is that there is no way any of us could possibly imagine what it would be like to live in the spotlight like he has. For those of you throwing stones, do you think all of the decisions you make would be the same if there was someone watching you 24/7? Tiger has raised millions of dollars for charity on his own and the PGA Tour has donated millions more because of Tiger Woods. The world is a far better place with him than without him. Can we all learn a valuable lesson from this? Absolutely. Can we all learn more from his charity and game? Absolutely. Should we all just leave him alone to deal with this in the private manner he has requested? ABSOLUTELY. |

I'll just agree to disagree with a few of you. We need to lighten this thread up.
How about Tigers new Christmas Card? This one is for MikeO. Oops - I need to figure out how to put up pictures without the LBG watermark on them. |

Hey - Are you snowbound or somethin? I didn't move the monkey! Don't put that on my back. Worse yet you accuse me of stealing the precious monkey, as though it was in your possession and I actually wanted it for my very own. I'll go dig for the dirty little primate as long as you don't point your stinky finger in my direction.&H |
You know, I am not going to agree with what Tiger might have done because, I have never cheated on my wife even though we are now divorcing, if that is the case which it seems to be Tiger admitting. I do think he stood up and showed balls by his statement today and believe he did the right thing. He is human not perfect "no one is' and as time goes on this will all fizzle away. If there is a stone to be cast here other than Tiger I, believe that it should be @ the slut "Home Wreckers" that knew Tiger was married with kids and still acted! Men have a tendancy sometimes to not think things through but, women are supose to be smarter and like to plot! Not that all women are bad just seems Tiger got sold out even though he was in the wrong by the the ones who now for some reason need lawyers, Hummmmm!
I just think it is BS, really! If it was Joe "The Plummer" no one would know or care to be honest. T-Dub did what he needed to do and that was hard in my opinion he, will get past this but it is going to take some time. I just hope him and Elin can work things out for the sake of there children I, know that is not always the right thing but ... See Morewhen you have kids you try as hard as you can and if it does not work well, @ least you know there was a effot made. Me and my wife got married because of our daughter but we are just to different people and dod not want our daughter to see us argue so, we are divorcing! Atleast it is on good terms thats the most important part so we can still do things together with our little girl just, not as a couple. Tiger will be fine and Elin as well no matter what happens... |
Tiger's been getting texts from Shane Warne - those in the USA may have to google that name - in how to deal with the press.
It is a sad situation. It is how he deals with it that will make or break the man. |
Going down, Sir?
We create our heroes out of scanty materials for the purpose of easy dismantling.
|
Nike better bring back that talking headcover.

It's a tough world out there
The Police asked Tigers wife how many times she hit him. She said, "I don't remember exactly, but put me down for a 5."
Apparently Phil called Elin yesterday to pick up some tips on how to beat Tiger. |

Tigers Driving Skills
Quote:
By the way, What's the difference between a golf ball and a Caddy? Tiger can drive a golf ball. Tiger drives very well on the fairway but doesn't fare very well on the driveway. The truth is out on why Tiger hit a Fire Hydrant and a Tree. He couldn't decide between an iron and a wood. drumrolllllll kaaachiing. OK I'll stop now. |

LoL.. Is that Bucket Humor....! |
Phil Michelson announced today that he’d like to see 'Fire Hydrants' installed on all par 5’s.

Tiger...
...blamed the accident on his Escalade malfunctioning...typical Tour player...blame it on his caddie.
But seriously, what do you expect when a person is told his entire life that he is "perfect" or "special" and then is given special treatment due to athletic prowess. Has he busted his arse to get better and better? You betcha...but he has also been given incredible advantages ALL HIS LIFE. A wife sees him not as Superman, but as flesh and blood, warts and all. It is different treatment than he has been experiencing all through his life. I feel very sorry for the kids...I was expecting him to be a Nicklaus or Hogan or Nelson, but he is just another jock with no morals...spoiled rotten. |
One Mistress Rule
We should all learn from Tiger, never break the one mistress rule!
|
Man this story just makes the tabloids drool
Now his high school buddy set up some of the "dates" with the chicks, confirmed by email. At what point do you think it ever crossed his mind that this all might come back and bite him? |
Rumour that Elin Woods used a 'rescue club' have now been proved false, she was trying to beat the s##t out of a driver
|
The bad news doesn't stop for Tiger. The First Church of Tiger Woods has been disbanded and the Tigerwoodsisgod site is being closed.
Its is now The Damnation of Tiger Woods! This site was one I chuckled at a few years ago when first fiding it but you can actually see what the impact of this was on its founder, John Ziegler. He writes: Quote:
|
What is the difference between a golf ball and an SUV
Tiger can drive a golf ball 300 yards Tiger has a lot of nice cars Now he has a hole in one:toothy: |
Tiger has been caught cheating again and needs your help! You can help Tiger escape the furry of Elin by navigating his Caddie around the obstacles and keeping him from taking a club to the head by Elin. Don't make to many mistakes or BAM!!

Bad Memories
Unfortunately, I saw first hand what this did to another super star of sport. He made a big mistake, just as Tiger has.
It cost him: His Family His Health His Endorsements His ability to continue the charity work he lived for The majority of his fans Ultimately - His Life It also cost the charities he worked so hard for millions. Tiger also does a lot of GREAT things. Do we really want to destroy him as we did this other man? It's time to let he and his family heal, if at all possible. This is a horrible situation that is going to cost many people dearly. Sorry for a preachy post, needed to get it off my chest among friends. Kevin |
Nice post Kev.
I really hope Tiger can recover from this AND save his marriage. That would be strong. |
'Do we really want to destroy him...."
He destroyed himself! We didn't do it. He has revealed himself as a huge liar. He created this Superman image and now we find out he is spineless reprobate. He is not a victim----his wife and kids are. Do I feel sorry for him?? Yes, a little, but I will never look at him the same. He is a phenomenal golfer, but an immoral turd behind the scenes. I was a huge fan of his---went to tournaments and would wait for 3 or 4 groups to go past just so I could see him tee-off up close. Even my non-golfing wife watched him on TV and waited on many a tee box with me and thought it was so cool to be so close. Maybe that is why this is so bothersome for me and many others . We WANTED him to be the image he created for us. We WANTED him to be different from other arrogant superstars-----and he wasn't. But we live in a land where this will all blow over with time. And i suspect he will receive the same treatment James Worthy of the L A Lakers got when he returned for his first game after we found out he liked to hang with some hookers on road trips----a standing ovation. We are truly a nation of misguided idiots. |
I think Tiger will be back. But his days as a saint is over. Now he is as human as the rest of us.
But humans are more interesting creatures than saints in anycase. Thay may not be quite as admirable as saints but they are certainly more lovable. The press will have more to write and talk about now that Tiger has shown a human side. If Tiger deals with the situation as a good man he will come out strong. With or without Elin by his side. |
I take all this with humor to be honest! Why? Maybe you might remember this; "He who without sin may cast the first stone".. We are all sinners and I am not going to get all religious because, I am a Christian! but, rather say I am not the one to judge him nor, is anyone else.
T-Dub is good people he just made a mistake and came clean in the end... Now its time for him to handle his personal life with his family by there self and get ready to tee it up in 2010. Not sure why anyone would not want to watch the greatest golfer on the planet? His personal life has nothing to do with golf thats, the media spinning that in your heads. TMZ "The Thirty Mile" back in the old days media wouldn't cross that rule and there are lots of things that we don't know that some of the old players might have done.. |
