Bob Hope Classic / PGA TOUR / January 21-35, 2009

Brian Gay today shot a brilliant 65 (-7 / T-13) in today's first round of the Bob Hope Classic hosted by Arnold Palmer. The tournament is being contested over four courses, and there was only one lower score on Bermuda Dunes (Vaughn Taylor with 63). http://www.pgatour.com/leaderboards/...002/index.html

Brian's round was bogey-free with seven birdies. Coming off two terrific tournaments in Hawaii, he's now goin' low on the mainland. What a great start in this new year!

I'm really interested in seeing what Brian does this year. Particularly in the US Open.

Brian's got to qualify first, Goose. A Top 30 on the 2008 Money List would have earned exempt status, but he finished #31.

:crybaby:

I'm reminded of the old Scottish recipe for rabbit stew: First . . .

Catch the rabbit!

Desert Foxes

On a 'go low' day, Brian Gay today shot 70 (-2) at Bermuda Dunes. He is now -9 for the tournament and T-49.

Long way to go yet . . . Three more days! . . . and plenty of birdies comin'.

Green Machine

Brian Gay today shot 63 (-9) on the Palmer Private course and, after four rounds, moved to -18 for the tournament and T-44. His round included five birdies in a row (holes 2-6) and three in a row to close.

Despite this fantastic scoring, he's well back of the lead (-30). Ne're the less, a good check is in the offing.

Bob Hope Classic / Final Round and Results

Brian Gay today shot 66 (-6) and moved up 26 places (from T-45 to T-19) on the toughest tour in the world. His 65-70-72-63-66=336 was 24-under-par for the five days. He averaged 271.8 off the tee, led the field in driving accuracy (85.29% of fairways hit) and was 25th in GIR (84.44%).

I'll post the money won when the results are up.

Great tournament, Brian. All the best next week at the FBR!

what does Brian need to do to get into the Masters?

I know the Top 50 get in but apart from that what does he reckon he needs to do and is it high on his priority list?

KevCarter 01-26-2009 09:59 AM

Another great finish Brian!

Yoda, I hope you went with a percentage this year rather than your straight hourly! :laughing9

The commentators have been praising Brian's putting the last couple of weeks. Have they noticed his ball striking statistics? WOW, He must be near the top of the charts in Driving Accuracy and GIR

I think a win between now and Augusta should just about do it. Otherwise a few more solid top 5s should see him for the US Open for definite and its up to the powers that be at Augusta for the Masters.
