Lynn Blake Letter Published in Golf World

Congratulations to our own Yoda aka Lynn Blake for his published letter-to-the-editor in this week's Golf World magazine (Donatello's Dollars/ July 25). The Golf World publication has a paid subscriber base of over 200,000 and is available worldwide through its parent company Golf Digest Publications.

Yoda tells me the last time he was published was way back in March 1983, the only other time he has written. In that article, he took to task E. Harvie Ward and his analysis of a Lee Trevino swing sequence.

Yoda says he is now "two for two and looking forward to writing again in 2033!" :rolleyes:

With nearly 6,400 posts to his credit on this site, we know his writing isn't rusty. Lets encourage him to keep shaking things up in the public golf scene! =D>

Does this mean I have to go see my Dentist and walk off with it? I haven't bought a Golf Mag in over a yr.

Actual my dentist is about 3 hrs away in the college town attended -Perry Adleson, Williamsport, PA.
Besides being a dentist worth the effort to go see, he is a friend, mentor, philosopher and my good vibe guru. Seeing him is like going on vaction. How many guys can say that about their dentist? Not a bad golfer either, Built a short par four in his backyard years ago.

I meant my oldest daughter's dentist in town. He gets doubles on every golf and fishing mag there is.

I think I know...

Having read last week's Golf World, I am betting Lynn's letter has something to do with Jay Williamson. Am I right, Yoda?

No, Blackjack, it related to caddy compensation on the PGA TOUR. Golf World had published a piece the week before relating how Doug Donatello, caddy for Eric Axley, had offered (and ultimately paid) a reward of $20 for help in finding an errant shot. Here was my response:

Donatello's Dollars

Though caddie Doug Donatello indeed realized a solid return on his $20 'investment' (The Fringe / July 18 ) after enticing fans to help find a ball at the John Deere Classic, it probably was less than the "standard 10 percent caddie share" mentioned. More likely, Eric Axley's T-4 earned Donatello 7 percent on the unwritten '5-7-10' norm -- 5 percent for a made cut, 7 percent for a top 10, and 10 percent for a win. This bonus is paid on top of a negotiated per week base (usually $1,000).

Not exactly War And Peace, but it was fun to write and informative to the average reader. Before everybody runs off and quits their day job, remember that caddies typically get paid only when their player competes and that they pay their own expenses. Do the math, and you'll find that you need a good bag to make a decent living.

I wonder if the original article had the name as Doug or if I was able to screw this one up all by myself!

That Don Donatello guy did not come across well on the Big Break show - especially when they were in Carnoustie!

He has got game and is a fierce competitor but as Hogan said:
