Help!
I scheduled a lesson with Yoda.
I haven’t hit a Golf Ball since Thanksgiving and before that June of 2007.
I went to the range yesterday.
I’m in trouble. Direction is very good but Trajectory is not.
What should I do to get back my swing?
3 of 5 shots are great but 2 of 5 will cost me. My Drives and Pitching are excellent. Putting is good. I tried throttling back. I’m keeping my head stationary. What’s up with the 3 irons?
Should I just go out and do Basic Motions for a couple of weeks and then Acquired for a couple of weeks?
How do you get the swing back: Fast?

Silly Daryl Head

You don't pay for a lesson for the oppurtunity to impress the instructor do ya, silly? I say get your swing into as many knots as possible before the lesson with Yoda in order to maximize your purchasing power! If not, look to your hands "Very few are the mistakes and troubles of a golfer that do not stem from faulty hands." HK So, basic motion with all the hinge actions you like to use sounds like a winner!

KAPLOWD 02-21-2008 03:11 PM

How much did you practice your Basic Motion? 12-5-1
How much did you practice your Aquired Motion? 12-5-2
How much did you practice your Aquired Motion with a swivel?

To whom is the question directed?

Bucket and I have known you were troubled all along! Now, you're just starting to realize what we already knew!:happy3:

Daryl,
Wouldn't worry about being rusty. When I decided I was going to hit the Swamp I purposely didn't hit any balls during the winter at our local dome facility---figured I didn't want to practice the wrong things. Showed up in late March having not hit a ball for 4 months. Yep, took a while to get back in the groove, but after about an hour it was getting back to normal. And Lynn will know whether you missed a shot because of rust or whether the mechanics were wrong. Be prepared to hit a lot of balls---but then again, Lynn likes to pound a few hundred himself!!

He fixed my swing last year. I hate for him to see any of that go to waste. Besides, I think I'd like to wager 'Polies' for Dimes with him. :eyes:

See, I'm already preparing for You and Bucket for October.... Benjamin Franklin is one of my favorite founding fathers. I like collecting pictures of him. :laughing9

Has anyone seen Bucket lately?

I don't even OWN a 3 iron. How about getting a hybrid? Better yet, why not let me fit you for one when you see Lynn?

In the meantime, try to hit full shots at 1/2 your normal distance then gradually increase to 3/4 then full. Once you slip into a rut go back to 1/2 distance and proceed again.

To clarify, this means that if your 7 iron normally goes 160, then try taking full swings to an 80 yard flag and still feel compression.

Keep step with the times Big D

You still swinging a Tony Pena persimmon? Gotta axe the butter knives and get you some...hybrids. Unless you are like Nick Price who says he hits hybrids too straight:happy3: I have sonartec hybrids to replace my 2, 3 & 4 irons...makes the bag a bit crowded but I dig them. I think they are far more versatile than people think. I hit my 2 iron hybrid further off the tee than my 2iron.

As for basic motion etc. I do it around the practice chipping green. I don't have the heart to hit basic motion shots 20 feet on a range so I do the chip and pitch deal around the chipping green. On the range I start with acquired motion and move on from there. I cap most sessions off with a half hour on the putting green.

You are practicing for a lesson? Further ingraining crappy habits . . . how about practicing AFTER the lesson . . .

Do you do this same sort of deal before you and the ole lady head out for a romantic weekend? Do you do "basic motion" to prepare for that?

Thanks. I'll go that route.

And I'll take you up on getting fitted. 2 hybrids and a 3 wood. Maybe a putter too. I'm getting tired of the Scotty Cameron thing. Since I've been using a Hitting Stroke on the Greens, I think maybe something heavier with a larger Yoda size grip. It seems to make more sense.

Hogan Blades. Tapered Rifle Project X shafts 2-E, SST pured. And Zodia Wedges, of course with custom grind.

I'm not ingraining crappy habits. I just need the fastest way to get the Swing Back. I prefer that the lesson be a POLISHING session. No grinding needed.:)

Best way to get it back is to GO PLAY GOLF. Play 9 holes or whatever and hit a bunch of golf shots.

True. But is 20 degrees and courses are closed. The best I can do is inside a dome.

Ouch. If it's 2o degrees there . . . why would a man vacation in Jackson's Hole? Dude you are a glutton for punishment . . . or a glutton for something.

Here's what you need to do . . . buy a net . . . a mat . . . a basement . . . a camera . . . figure out what your most glaring wobble is . . . fix it.

Net work in doors that is monitored with video can really improve your motion.

Jackson Hole was my wifes idea. I told her never again. From now on I'm planning the Winter vacations. I could have been playing golf for a week in Mexico. Instead I was on a mountain, at 7000 feet going uphill in snow shoes in 3 foot deep snow at 20 below zero in a blizzard. All I could thing about was catching up to my wife so I could strangle her. When I got back to the hotel, I ordered a Margarita: it's not the same. :laughing9 :laughing9 :laughing9
