The Secret of Hogan's Swing
Just read the new book, The Secret of Hogan's Swing by
Tom Betrand. Betrand was an assistant to John Schlee, one of the few to receive personall instruction from Hogan. According to Schlee, the missing link to Hogan's secret is a rotation of the left elbow toward the left hip to square the clubface through impact. The book lists, in order of time, the other concepts of the secret by othe authors and players. An iteresting mention is the arms turned in at address. Schlee says that Hogan did not do it due to physical problems due to the accident, but did bring the arms close together later in his swing. The middle of the book rambles along about the troubled life of John Schlee. Pictures of Betrand, showing the Hogan fundementals, were a little overdone. For those interested in Hogans Secrets, the book may give you some things to think about. |
Warning: This Book Could Be Hazardous To Your Golf Swing
Quote:
I read the book in a sitting at Barnes & Noble. The Power Package alignments should come with a warning label. Regarding Hogan 'secrets' and the mystique surrounding them, all I can say is... Thank God for Homer Kelley. |

I took a 2-day weekend group lesson from John Schlee in the '80's....interesting person....he taught the importance of having a very set pre-shot routine that included breathing in and out prior to swinging. He talked about how he lost the Open because he was distracted during an important shot and did not start his routine over prior his swing...it seemed to trouble him that he did not restart the whole swing routine. He was a tall fellow...I recall that he taught that one could make an entire swing with all the weight on the front foot. He could really hit the ball long. He told me that I needed to learn how to start my downswing with a forward knee move to the target. He taught at the Olympia Golf Facility near La Costa. |
The Final Piece of Ben Hogan's Secret Puzzle
For the Hogan fans, I think that this is one of the best books written
and could be the missing link to Hogan's secret. The book is written by V.J. Trolio with Dave Hamilton. Pg24 "THE MISSING PIECE IS THE LATERAL MOVEMENT OF BEN HOGAN'S HIPS FORWARD AND OVER HIS LEFT LEG, PRIOR TO THE COMPLETION OF HIS BACKSWING. V.J. did some excellent research and has some great pictures to back up his findings. |
Lets NOT keep this a Secret
