If you have a "Straight line Delivery Path" (second phase of the downstroke acceleration sequence) then you have an Aiming Point (not every has one). If you extend the line to the ground, it should point somewhere along the Plane Line. Drag the #3 PP down the Straight Line Path to the Aiming Point. Throw-out begins at the end of the straight line where the pulley begins (dashed line). There is another way....Not, in my opinion the best way (one of Homers ways). But, you can keep your stance width the same and adjust your Aiming Point. Then, the aiming point controls the release point. So, for a Driver the Aiming Point will be aft of the ball and a Wedge might have an Aiming Point forward of the ball. But this doesn't work if you keep changing your stance width. And, very important, the #3 Accumulator angle in your Left hand can change to fine tune the process. ![]() |

Hey ICT
Here's a little something for you . Bucket sent me this book , I miss that guy where the heck is he high diddly hiding? Wish he'd come back . IMO, Homer didnt invent the Aiming Point. Just like he didnt invent Hinge Action etc etc. But he decoded it quite nicely ..........then he wrote the most confusing book ever written on golf . Well unless Daryl or I decide to write one that is. :) Or maybe we collaborate? peanut butter ? And chocolate? That'll never taste good. Re aiming point . Think about the longer levers and how they take longer to switch ends. Get an old 2 iron and try to hit it. You need to sweep it off the turf in common speak . Random Sweep Release isnt called "sweep' for nothing . The longer clubs need to be released earlier to get to there Fix position by impact. Just like old Abe says on page 67. The Aiming Point PROCEDURE can be employed to effect this . Or the aiming point procedure can be employed to delay release . Homer believed that it was the best way to learn Snap release . IMO as an aside and I know how averse you are to digression so I appologize in advance.... people get too enamoured with Snap Release . Or super Snap . You got Full Sweep at one end , Snap at the other and everthing in between (Random Sweep). They are all useful . The Release Point is a Mechanical Adjustment . The longer levers demand an earlier release. It can all be done by feel of course too. Thats how most folks do it. Even those with no perception of what we call the |
LMAO but I digress!

Radically different alignments -- Hitters versus Swingers. Absent demonstration, almost impossible to describe in words. Even then, only for the few. Sorry, O.B., can't go there. :( |
Quote:
Isnt it really Hitters , manipulated Hands Swingers (making for almost everybody) versus True Swingers? And BTW , shouldnt we annotate 6-H-O F accordingly? "Associate the following with True Swinging". Given "Plane Line Rotation". K how bout this one then Yoda? If you positioned the ball back of Straight Away Position and didnt Rotate the Grip (face towards the target line or start line) but instead rotated the plane line to point the face at your start line .... Im thinking you'd hit a straight shot yes assuming you've aligned for zero divergence between face and clubhead path. But didnt you just effectively add loft to the club face? |

Smashing through the ball felt great! Pretty straight ball with narrow stance and TSP Horizontal Hinge. For yucks, I played St.Andrew's and had one birdie on my way two an 85 managing to avoid all sand traps except one. Lots of really stupid putts into a screen. Weird. It was an easy 85 and yes I did put the simulator on calm and sunny, may Jack Morris forgive me! :shifty: Putting on the greens at St. Andrew's for real was easier than the computer, real rap, no fraudin', done it twice!' Computer rough/heather is easier though, a lot easier, LOL! ICT |

One more thing. If you're looking for a Swing Thought that can start you off on the right track, then try thinking "LOAD". Load the Right Foot, then Load the #3 PP. |
I made those mistakes all night last night!
Quote:
Old habits/wrong habits die hard! I can see that if I just loaded the inside right foot, there would be a sufficient weight shift so I had more to drag down! I tend to forget and keep a lot of my weight on my left leg since it is shorter. I really have to form a checklist like in the yellow book so I can practice correctly. Thanks Daryl! Aim Points for fun and profit!
Quote:
Using Aim Point Technique on the course with my imitation Steve Stricker swing! Right Forearm Takeaway to my right ear into a braced right knee. Fully extended right arm on plane at set-up, RFT, and right hip turning left while "mind in the hands" directing the thrust of PP # 3 three inches aft and in from the ball for driver (straight ball and summer distance) to 5-6 inches for a high draw. :idea1: Right to the inner quadrant of the ball for a high lazy fade. An inch in front of my 3 wood for a solid and long, straight shot or a great hybrid! But the real cool thing was hitting my short irons within 10-20 feet of the pin by aiming my thrust an inch ahead of the ball! Very cool. :thumright ICT |

I also realized today, that I can really trust the # 3 PP drag/lag and that The Aim Point technique is a really powerful tool from any lie! My right forearm will go, as Lynn always says, wherever we point. "Point and reach for the cup!" Yesterday, I got confused with sometimes trying to guess the measurement of the Right Forearm Angle of Approach (RFAOA). Then I snapped out of it and remembered what Daryl said about using that RFAOA to measure! :thumright With any ball lie, I would keep my impact fix and simply place the wedges down on the ground wherever I would like to lag to or drive through. Then I would RFT back to my right ear and then simply fire! I could compensate for any lie by adjusting the Aim Point and keep my right wrist really bent. I am sure I am missing something basic but this seems incredibly easy. Just be gentle when you call me a moron remembering how sensitive I am!:p ICT |
More benefits of the Right Forearm Angle of Approach
Quote:
Making progress not perfection is the goal. I've realized that tracing the Baseline of the Plane helps the left wrist lay flatter and the right wrist be more bent for swinging and covering that line helps the right forearm drive the heck out of Pressure Point # 1, the heel of the right hand on the left thumb. I was trying to figure out how to drive more effectively for more power. I know that I have to stay on the inside of my right foot for swinging or hitting. Turning my right hip to the left works great for swinging but for hitting? :eh: So I experimented with driving off my right leg which from extra use is a lot stronger than my right. Man, the loading of PP # 1 was strong and instantaneous! :thumright BAM went the impact bag!!! So, does it work for swingers? Is this what VJ Trolio's fine book on Hogan "The Final Missing Piece" speaking about, namely, a push off the inside right edge of the back foot shifting most of his weight to the left before the thrust forces the front hip to turn left? Well, I will experiment an report back! Anyone else can chime in too! :thumleft: |

Let's examine the right and left hand/arm contribution. I read a article a while back where a golfer did some one armed swinging. As I recall- the golfer had a 2 handed swin speed of about 100 mph, a left arm only swing speed of about 86 mph and a right arm only swing speed of about 90 mph. off-hand, it would show that swinging or hitting-we can argue later which it is- the second hand is a major contributor. Using the numbers I remember - if swinging the left alone , 86 mph, contributed about 75% to a 2 handed 100mph swing -therefore the right would be the only be the only possible power source for the remaining 25% and if the right arm alone can produce 90 mph would be about 81% and the left must produce 19% of the power to reach 100 mph 2 handed. I give U the answer now I leave the mechanics of the solution as an exercise for U. HB |

Level wrists eh?
Quote:
Daryl's article is sort of reading my mind. I am so into the pressure point thrust now, that everything else serves to simply get and keep the lag! When Covering the Line as a hitter, do I use the Aim Point of the left thumb/right heel PP # 1 which I am driving do I use the Aim Point of PP # 3? ICT |
Quote:
Someone once told me a picture is worth 847 words, or something like that. :-) PP #3 is always your friend when discussing Aiming Point and driving that club down/out/forward... |

Level wrists at set-up then...

Throwing or thrusting at the Aim Point means my club head is accelerating at impact faster than ever before! My hybrids and 3 wood are stiff shafted graphite and the shot dispersion was well controlled. My irons are regular steel and well-controlled. I had to use the angle hinge with the senior shafted drivers or I would have no idea of where the drive would go but with the Angle Hinge the soft shaft was amazing. ICT |

Weather report:30 degrees, windy and steady compression in the late afternoon
Quote:
http://youtu.be/NeFBj3361i8 I knew I wanted to do it, carry the right forearm laid off down and stay connected, that is. Anthony said that he had noticed a "hitch" in my swing that seemed to disrupt my swing. I said "you mean my line of compression?" "I was off-plane?" So I explained "line of compression." Anthony did not realize there was a term of that, again. Anthony explained how Hogan said that any shot below a 5 iron needed an open stance so the hips would be pre-turned since the clubs were so short that they straightened earlier (came into line). So, I started opening my stance and shortening it. The hitch disappeared! :) The RFAA and elbow connection was sustained. I felt the ball compress as I have since Daryl suggested I shorten my stance weeks ago. :golfcart: Anthony said it was the first time he saw my left shoulder work up and my swing look "smooth" He explained how in his study Hogan and pros create a huge space between their front hip and front shoulder so the club can stay on plane, but that the foot work has to be good. I told him about the "both arms straight position" being necessary for full extension and power and again he was surprised that there was golfing language for that. :p So I shortened and opened my stance for every club including my # 2 hybrid ( 200 yards high and straight despite the cold and wind) and driver ( old Adams Red Line 9.5 senior shaft ) where I actually saw the ball "double accelerate" off the face of the club time and again ! :golfcart2: For each shot, I knew I would go through "both arms straight" compressing the ball, hitting through the ball and either drawing or fading the ball based on ball position. I had been watching a lot of Mike Austin and his "step and throw" which like Hogan's had kept his right Elbow attached to his side for a long time. http://youtu.be/962X9A1oQsI So by stepping left and keeping my right elbow connected or using the RFAA Bucket drill, I was able to sustain the Lag on plane and in balance! I am not throwing as Mike Austin did but simply dragging the mop through by stepping left. The balls left the driver shooting like bb's and went high and straight or any way I determined based on ball position. As narrow as my stance was, I was able to reach full extension through the both arms straight position and finish with the "arrow through the ear " finish fully facing the target with my chest and with both knees almost touching. Daryl had told me that the RFAA would result in much straighter ball flight and better compression. By opening and narrowing my stance and stepping left, I am now able to carry my right elbow and Power Package through strongly gaining both power and precision. Thanks guys! ICT |

45 degrees and same increased distances as yesterday! Ball position for me seems to be a couple inches back from normal given my unusual leg length. THE FEELING I NOW HAVE IS OF RELAXING, SINKING INTO THE RIGHT HEEL LIFT AND WAITING FOR THE PULL OF PP # 3 TO PULL THE ROPE/CLUB TAUGHT THROUGH THE BALL AND MAKING ME LIFT MY HEAD TO SEE THE BALL VERY HIGH, PENETRATING AND STRAIGHT. Thanks guys! ICT |

Feeling the # 3 PP for an amazingly smooth, close strike!
While stepping onto my right heel with full weight feeling very tall and balanced, Swinging from impact Fix, very comfortable on my longer leg, Bent Right Wrist above my right ear, enjoying the highest hand position I've ever had, I had a very, very narrow stance (feet next to each other within one shoe size). The head seems isolated over the back leg, perfectly still until the club whipping through drags the shoulder up and the head with it. I watch impact without a concern or interruption. Slight pressure on PP # 3 but the Bent Right Wrist is very, very relaxed. I step left on the left heel quickly and the BRW falls straight down with the pull of the left hip on PP # 3 and weight of the club head pulverizing the ball. Irons and hybrids do inverted fishhooks straight out with little fades as my width stays narrow and as I focus on impact at the inner quadrant. Head is relaxed and completely stable and optimum strikes happen with the ball closer to me than ever before. Driver seems to double accelerate! Lots of fog here today, ball was rising at 200 yards before disappearing : > I do believe because of my left leg shortness, my weight flows very quickly to my left side in planting my left heel and throwing the club at the ball! ( It has taken me awhile to feel the shift because I am always feeling my right leg carrying most of my weight.) (RFAOA right forearm angle of attack and Narrow Stance very effective thanks Daryl!)
