Welcome Back, Bobby!
Quote:
The young Bobby Clampett was among the best amateurs in the world, winning six major events: the 1978 and 1980 California State Amateur, Western Amateur, Porter Cup, Western Junior and Sunnehanna Amateur. He played the PGA TOUR fourteen years, made 232 cuts, and won once -- the 1982 Southern Open. He had 33 Top 10 finishes (including a T-3 at the 1982 U.S. Open). His collapse from the lead in the the 1982 British Open foreshadowed a playing career of unfulfilled promise. It was Bobby's prominence as a player that led me -- and many others -- to the study of Homer Kelley's great work, The Golfing Machine. For that, I am forever grateful. It's been 28 years since Bobby's last professional win. Meanwhile, his commentary has been heard on over 200 golf telecasts (including 16 Masters, 17 PGA Championships, 16 PGA Grand Slams of Golf 6 President’s Cups and 5 British Opens). Now, as a 2010 Champions Tour rookie, he has returned as a player. His driving distance, fairways hit and GIR stats are well above average. If he can get his lagging short game stats into the same league . . . He will win again. :salut: |
