C'mon man...you can't go correcting Hogan's swing now...can you...?

I mean, this is one of the best ballstrikers of all time....that elbow alignment must be contributing somehow to his swing.

birdie_man,

Even Mr. Hogan wasn't ....

perf....

no one...

but I'd agree ...
He's one of the best....

I used to be a "Hogan" guy...

then I learned a little more...

Then I became a "Snead" guy....

and IF...Tiger keeps learnin and Improvin it won't be long I'll be a Tiger guy....
I love everything about Hogans swing with the exception of his lower body....Hogan never slid!...wrongo...try up to 10-12 inches ...that's why he probably preached "clearing his hips"....

The only players who actually DID what they preached were ...

Trevino, O'Grady, and Blake

Yes Snead -- So where is the impact pic of ole Sammy??

nevermind 08-22-2005 07:49 AM

ahhh... this illustrates perfectly to me how the rear hand grip effects the ability of the right forearm to be precisely on plane. I often wondered how people could have the rear forearm in line with the shaft, without having the grip in the right palm/lifeline. At least for most of these guys, I see that the result is an "almost in line" alignment. Cool

Eureka....

Nevermind...

That's Huge...

The observation of the grip type and ability to "line it up on-plane"

Keep em coming!!!

So it is easier to get the right forearm on plane with a strong right hand grip... like Couples and O'Grady? Both these guys use something like a 10-2-F I believe. Hogan, of course, had more of a 10-2-B, and had his forearm on plane also.

How is the Impact of someone like Johnny Miller, or Pavin... who uses a weak right hand grip?

EdZ 08-22-2005 10:34 AM

The right hand 'cup' and the left hand thumb position with a 'gap' is the only way to really have both wedges properly 'on' plane and still use BOTH wedges to fully support impact.

Anything else and you are giving up some power and/or alignments.

Moe's grip was far better than most will recognize in this regard.

For a setup drill that will help you set the wedges:

Right hand only chip shots will also help show you that the grip is not so much 'in the fingers' as 'at the base' - indeed a stronger right hand (and probably weaker left hand) than most are used to.

If you look really close at the wrist alignments of the players right hand...

Each player has a different wrist alignments...

Donna Andrews - Cocked and Bent

Mac O'Grady - Level and Bent

Tom Watson - Uncocked and Bent

So Bent, Level, Vertical ...produces the right arm flying wedge alignment...

Just like EdZ has previously posted....

Study the Palm and Wrist of each player

Here is another good one of Couples

Excellent point!

And how many people REALLY know what to look for and the importance of the LEVEL right wrist? Even those that claim to be well versed in the Machine.

What's your analysis of the pic of Mike Springer. Looks like his right wrist is level BUT his forearm is not On-Plane?
