LynnBlakeGolf: BG's got it about 18 ft on the 211 yard 8th. Ran it well by. Safely in. Getting dark now. How dark? B's got his sunglasses off. That's dark!
LynnBlakeGolf: Horn just sounded. All done for today. Play resumes at 7;30. BG's +5.
LynnBlakeGolf: Problem now is getting back. We are at furthest most point from the CH. At least 20 minutes away. Players get emergency vehicles. We wal ...
LynnBlakeGolf: The good news is that Mrs. Yoda is with me. Another romantic trail walk . . . In the dark yet!
LynnBlakeGolf: So, we were crossing the rd behind #17 for the walk in. One of NYPD's finest stops the traffic and motions us across. "How long you -->
LynnBlakeGolf: Been married?" He asked. Without breaking stride, I called out, "42 years!" "42 years," he said shaking his head, "and still holding hands."
LynnBlakeGolf: Made it to our Hilton shuttle stop. About 50 people, mostly USGA staff and volunteers, are ahead of us. We won't make the next shuttle.

I should be so lucky if I ever get married..........it is SOOO hard to find someone you can stand for 42 weeks much less YEARS!!!! CONGRATS AND RESPECT for this YODA:salut: :salut: .......... now LET"S GO BG !!!! |
LynnBlakeGolf: Safely in. Headed to the room to deposit the US Open merchandise and clean about 8 pounds of mud off our shoes. Then, martini time! :-)
LynnBlakeGolf: Boy, looking at the USGA folk as they walked in the hotel front door tonite, you could sure tell the field mice from the inside mice: Mud!
LynnBlakeGolf: Cocktails and dinner done, it's off to bed. Our start is 7:30 (on the outer perimeter) pre-round practice will be under the lights @ 6:15.
LynnBlakeGolf: And, of course, should the slated rain come and the wind howl, so be it. Hey, what's not to like? For me, every day is Saturday!
Glad you and the missus made it in safely. I can imagine perilous footing and darkness falling fast.
LynnBlakeGolf: Omigosh . . . It IS Saturday! Nite all.
LynnBlakeGolf: On the practice tee with BG. Plenty of light. No artificial ones required. And no rain. Yay!
LynnBlakeGolf: You can't believe how far it is to 9th tee on this golf course! + started on 10th tee Wed practice, #10 1st rd; ended here last nite. Whew!
LynnBlakeGolf: But here again this early morn. The horn just blew, and BG split the middle of this sloping #9 fwy. Here we go! Got 11 holes to get'er done.
LynnBlakeGolf: Great up and down from the far front bunker. Split #10 fw but front bunkered 225 yd 2nd shot. Front pin. Another tuffy.
LynnBlakeGolf: Up and in with a 5-footer ker-plunk! If I had to choose 1 guy to play a bunker shot for MY life, it would be BG.
LynnBlakeGolf: Another great drive and this time a fine second. Can't see it from here, but close enough to get claps!
LynnBlakeGolf: Missed the 6 ft birdie. Now bunkered off the tee at the 504 yd par 4 4th. Had about 250 in with a high lip facing him. No way to get there.
LynnBlakeGolf: Bogey at the par 4 4th. 517 very long yds. On with about 25 ft downhill sidehill putt at the 605-yd 5th. It's . . . IN!!! Birdie!!!
LynnBlakeGolf: Kimberly joined us on 10, dressed in purple and lookin' great. You don't see many TOUR wives walking every step of the way, esp @ 7:30 am!
LynnBlakeGolf: Grazed the hole at the par 3 14th. Safely in. Need birdies NOW. Cut is low 60 + ties or 10 shots off lead. At +5 it's going to be close.
LynnBlakeGolf: Another fw at the 459 par 4 15th. Uphill 2nd to tiered green one of the most difficult on course. Phil's just birdied across at 17. ROAR!
LynnBlakeGolf: BG's hit great shot. I'm below the hill and can't tell how close. Judging from his address and flag, appears to be about 20 feet. Two putts. Par.
LynnBlakeGolf: Walking's easier today: straw was brought in for the really bad areas. Also, at least 1 wooden walkway constructed overnight (@15 fairway).
LynnBlakeGolf: With 200+ yds remaining at the 490 yd par 4 16th, BG's put it left bunker, very deep, but pin hi. He's hit and is short about 20 feet.
LynnBlakeGolf: BG dropped the putt on 16! Yay!! And now he's hit it in about 25 ft on the 207 yd par 3 17th. Go BG!
LynnBlakeGolf: Just missed slipped by 18" on this lightning fast, sloping green. Still not down. His 2 ptnrs just missed from inside 4 ft. He's in.
LynnBlakeGolf: From the middle of the fw on 18, deep bunkered left. Out with longish putt remaining. Cut line undetermined but looms.
LynnBlakeGolf: Missed it. Still not in.Whew! Down for bogey, 73 and +6. It's gonna be close. 3rd rd slated to begin at 5:45.
LynnBlakeGolf: Watching the tournament from the Barclays pavilion in Empire Village (which lines the 18th fairway). BG's +6 doesn't look good. -->
LynnBlakeGolf: But weather's coming -- it's already across the way in Jersey -- and you never know. For now, we wait.
Thank you
This is so very cool. Thanks Lynn and all responsible for making this a feature!
UPP in soggy Ohio |
LynnBlakeGolf: Spent some time with the publisher of Golf World this afternoon. Maybe we can figure out a way to get 'ol Yoda published.
LynnBlakeGolf: Then, during the break between rds 2 and 3, a final pass through the Merchandise Tent. Finally, walked the practice tee as the players ----
LynnBlakeGolf: --- warmed up for the 3rd rd. All the usual suspects, Tiger, Phil et. al. And that was that for the US Open 2009, at least for me. ---
LynnBlakeGolf: The rains were coming, and it was time for Mrs. Yoda and me to head to the barn. We caught the shuttle back to the Hilton ---
LynnBlakeGolf: --- where we now sit over cocktails watching the deluge out the window. BG missed the cut by two, so we'll be headed home tomorrow.
